Charge Pod: The future proof solution with integrated 12 volt battery chargers coming soon.
A Nissan LEAF was driving through Stanmore, London making its way to a charging point before becoming totally flat at a set of traffic lights.
As a result, the stranded EV user had no choice but to turn his hazard lights on, exit the vehicle and wait for the RAC to arrive.
Being stranded at a very busy junction, the customer was very relieved that the RAC were able to rectify the problem from a standard patrol vehicle rather than having to deploy a big flatbed recovery truck which would have added to the congestion and inconvenience for all the other commuters passing through the junction because of this one EV user.
Charge Pod was the perfect solution.
In addition to the vehicle itself being flat, this Nissan LEAF was experiencing an additional problem. As the driver had his hazard lights on for some time, the secondary 12-volt battery in the vehicle (which powers the vehicles small on board electronic systems, like head lights, hazard lights, radio, etc) had depleted and a battery re-charge was required before charging the flat EV batteries.
Excitingly, the new Charge Pod Battery Module which can be incorporated into the Charge Pod box will enable the power from the Charge Pod to be used on 12V batteries… Saving the need for the heavy portable 12 volt battery chargers which are currently in service and saving even more space inside the patrol vehicle.

Portable electric vehicle chargers are an essential product as we move into the age of electric vehicles. Charge Pod continues to prove itself to be the best possible portable electric vehicle charging solution…
After hiring an electric rental car and depleting the charge on the vehicle to just a few remaining miles, the vehicle began to shut down. The EV driver then phoned the car hire company and requested assistance.
Knowing that the RAC were equipped with the fastest and most convenient solution to this problem on the market, the hire company selected the RAC to help their stranded customer.
The customer being extremely worried about transmission of Covid-19 and expecting a tow truck to arrive to transport both him and the vehicle, he was very relieved that the RAC were able to keep a safe distance whilst the Patrol plugged the EV into Charge Pod and allowed the vehicle to charge.
Charge Pod was therefore able to eliminate a risk to both breakdown assistance staffs and their customers which other alternatives like flatbed recovery trucks would simply not allow. This making Charge Pod a far safer solution in such circumstances.
The customer needing to get back to Heathrow to swap the vehicle, the RAC were able to provide the VW e-Golf with the 16-mile range needed.

Stranded at the airport until Charge Pod provides power boost to the flat EV enabling a family to reach the nearest electric car charging station 6 miles away.
A family about to go on holiday drove their Kia Niro PHEV to the airport. The battery of the hybrid became depleted on arrival as the family parked up in the airport carpark. Assuming that there would be a charging station at the airport and confident that the vehicle had sufficient range to reach the charging station upon their return, the family jetted off on holiday worry free.
However, neither of these assumptions materialised…
After a long and exhausting flight, the family returned to the car to find that the battery, after being left parked for two weeks, had gone completely flat. To add to the family’s misfortune, there was no static charging at the airport either.
The family phoned the RAC hoping they would be able to help. The family’s luck began to turn as the RAC sent a patrol vehicle equipped with the on-Demand Charge Pod solution, and after a simple power boost the Niro was able to reach the nearest electric car charging station in no time at all.

A Surprisingly Simple Solution to Flat EV’s… Charge Pod – The Portable Electric Vehicle Charging System
As an attempt to avoid public transport, a young lady hired a rental car in central London to drop some supplies off to her family.
When she reached her family home, she noticed that the vehicle did not have much charge left and was nervous that she wouldn’t be able to get back home.
She phoned the rental car company who in turn phoned the RAC for the fastest possible option.
The young lady was shocked to see the arrival of an RAC patrol vehicle because she associated the RAC with mechanical breakdowns, so she was rather inquisitive of the Charge Pod solution.
Expecting a big fuss and palaver, the young lady was pleasantly surprised that the patrol vehicle was equipped with a lightweight and compact electric vehicle charging system, so all the Roadside Patrol had to do was plug the car into the Charge Pod and 30 minutes later she was provided with enough range to get back to her destination.
“My customer was over the moon with Charge Pod, there was no hassle, no fuss, it just got the job done!” – RAC Roadside Patrol
Car Valet leaves Customer with Flat Battery and in Need of Quick Charge to get to Nearby Electric Car Chargers.
During a routine car valeting service, the valet company shampooed the seats of a Nissan LEAF, after which they attempted to dry the seats by blasting the car heaters. As a result, the charge of the car was completely flattened. Not being near any electric car chargers and after making failed attempts to charge the car with use of an extension lead and a standard wall socket, the RAC were called to help.
The RAC were able to provide the perfect solution for the situation. The roadside patrol simply connected Charge Pod to the Nissan LEAF and after a quick power boost the LEAF was provided with 11 miles of charge, which was ample for the EV driver to get to a static charging station.

As more and more companies are committing to electric vehicle fleets, it is crucial that roadside assistance companies are equipped with the tools needed to support electric vehicle fleets. Charge Pod provides the critical reassurance that if an EV driver runs out of charge before it is able to reach a static charging station, they can recieve an emergency power boost from a standard patrol vehicle so they can be driven to the nearest static charging station.
The Royal Mail wants their fleet to become a net zero carbon business with a 100% alternative fuel fleet in the coming years and as such, it is essential that they have the best roadside assistance to deal with their substantial electric vehicle fleets.
The Coronavirus pandemic enhanced our reliance on services like the Royal Mail making it imperative these services kept up and running with the utmost efficiency. Charge Pod played an important role in making this happen for one member of the postal service.
When just 4 miles away from a Royal Mail depot, the individual was stranded at the roadside because the electric postal van had run out of charge.
The RAC patrol vehicle simply plugged the electric van into the Charge Pod system and was able to provide the van a 15-mile range; ample to get the individual back to the depot.
Amidst the Coronavirus pandemic, the alternative to the RAC patrol using a Charge Pod – sending for a separate flatbed recovery truck – would have used more resources and potentially meant an increased risk of COVID-19 transmission, given more people would be involved with the breakdown. Charge Pod enabled both workers to keep a safe distance from one another whilst the vehicle was charged.
