The AM Awards 2022 brings together the most prestigious car retailers, automotive suppliers and car manufacturers to celebrate the best the industry has to offer.
We are thrilled to announce that in partnership with the RAC, our pioneering Charge Pod system has been shortlisted for the Best New Product or Service category at this year’s AM Awards. This category aims to celebrate a product which has met a distinct need within the automotive sector and has proven benefits to customers.
We believe our Charge Pod system is a worthy contender for this award as it has enabled the RAC to provide the best possible out of fuel service to an electric vehicle from the standard patrol vehicles they already have in service. By implementing the system into standard fleet vehicles, it has enhanced the range of services the RAC are able to provide to drivers, enabling them to maintain their notorious reputation for fixing/rectifying 4 out of 5 breakdowns at the roadside.
The RAC have already seen drivers in a number of scenarios where they have run out of charge before they have been able to reach a static charging station for a number of reasons. For example, some drivers have reached out of order charging stations whilst others have overestimated the range of the vehicle. As the numbers of EV drivers on our roads increase, we will see an inevitable rise in the frequency of this problem. We believe Charge Pod surpasses all other potential solutions to the problem of flat or severely charge depleted electric vehicles because unlike any other alternative, it is lightweight, compact and has 100% duty cycle so it never runs out of charge and is always ready and available for use.
This year’s awards have attracted a record-breaking number of entries, which makes the fact that we have made it to the finals even more special and we are very excited to apart of the 2022 event.
The National Technology Awards are the most comprehensive celebration of technology, organised by National Technology News.
We are truly ecstatic to announce that in partnership with the RAC, our Charge Pod product has been shortlisted for another THREE categories at the National Technology Awards. The categories we have been shortlisted for are:
Innovation of the Year
Tech Company of the Year
Transport and Logistics Tech of the Year
Being an engineering company, innovation and problem solving will always remain at the very core of what we do. When the RAC approached us with the problem of EV drivers running out of charge before they are able to reach a static charging station, we recognised that alternative methods (flatbed recovery trucks and/or portable batteries), were not only impractical and problematic for fleet operators for a number of reasons, but they fail to exploit technology to its full potential to provide the best possible solution to this problem.
We have designed the Charge Pod system so that it never runs out of power and is always ready and available for use. Additionally, Pod can provide as much charge as is needed to get an EV to a static charging station. Furthermore, the Charge Pod communication box has been expertly designed by our world-class team of Electronic Engineers who have made this element as lightweight and compact as a standard shoe box.
Charge Pod utilises pioneering technology like a revolutionary permanent magnet 10kW generator which weighs just 9kg, making it the lightest, most compact 10kW generator the world has ever seen, which in turn has meant that we have a fantastic solution which unlike alternative solutions, is fit for purpose and is the best way to deal with this problem on the global market. It is for these reasons we believe Charge Pod is a worthy contender for these awards and we are very much looking forward to awards ceremony on the May 26th!
In these challenging times, UK businesses have shown remarkable resilience and ingenuity – and, as ever, innovation has proved to be the powerhouse of the British economy. The UK Business and Innovation Awards believe this quick thinking, adaptability and creativity truly deserves recognition across a whole range of industries.
We are delighted to be starting 2022 with yet another award win. On the 9th of February at the UK Business and Innovation Awards 2022 awards ceremony, it was announced that Original ADS in partnership with the RAC have won the Best Product Development Innovation category. This category celebrates the best examples of innovation that facilitates product development within an organisation.
We entered our Charge Pod system into this award because the RAC recognised the fact that more electric vehicles were going to be making their way on to UK roads and foresaw the problem of EVs running out of charge and being left stranded at the roadside before they can reach a static charging station. As a result, Original ADS created a super lightweight and compact EV power boost system which can be incorporated onto the standard patrol vehicles the RAC already have in service, allowing them to carry out all other traditional roadside assistance tasks.
The judges commented that:
“With the growth of EVs of varying types, the team demonstrated the thought process for potential future changes in this area, delivering a solution for now and onwards”.
This is now the 5th award victory for Charge Pod, proving it is an unparalleled product and truly is the best solution to the problem of EVs running out of charge on the world’s stage.

The 2022 UK Business and Innovation Awards aim to celebrate the remarkable resilience, ingenuity and innovation of the heroic business professionals of the covid era who have pivoted, pioneered and persevered in an unpredictable age. These awards believe quick thinking, adaptability and creativity truly deserves recognition.
In partnership with the RAC, we are delighted to announce that our Charge Pod product has made it to the finals for the Best Use of Technology (B2B) and the Best Product Development Innovation categories.
The automotive industry is undergoing a period of profound change as the world begins to phase out traditional internal combustion engine vehicles and switch to EVs. As of today, there are approximately 370,000 electric cars (EVs) and 710,000 plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) on the road in the UK and these figures are set to rise substantially in the coming years. Some studies have estimated a third of UK drivers will own a fully electric vehicle by 2025. This technological change is daunting for many as an estimated 58% of the population consider range anxiety as a barrier to switching to electric vehicles.
Charge Pod is a truly innovative solution which seeks to alleviate range anxiety concerns by providing an emergency power boost to flat or severely charge depleted electric vehicles enabling them to be driven to the nearest static charging point rather than being picked up and recovered on flatbed recovery truck. Charge Pod is often considered as the jerrycan solution for EVs. However, unlike a simple jerrycan filled with petrol or diesel, a far more complex engineering knowledge is required to provide an ‘out of fuel’ service to an EV. By using pioneering technology -including the creation of the world’s lightest, most compact 10kW generator- Original ADS and the RAC have been successful in creating a solution which is being rolled out across the RAC’s fleet.
With many individuals and companies using electric vehicles, Charge Pod has proved itself to be an essential product to the RAC’s fleet and has been key in enabling the vital services of the country to be kept operating even in the challenging circumstances the covid era has presented us with.
We believe our title of ‘finalists’ at the UK Business and Innovation Awards reflects the forward-thinking, adaptable and innovative business mindset of both Original ADS and the RAC.
On the 2nd of September Original ADS and RAC were announced the winners of the Best Use of Technology category at the Motor Transport Awards with our pioneering Charge Pod solution. Following the victory of this prestigious title, we have since been interviewed by the Motor Transport magazine who have published an article written about our revolutionary EV charging system.
The article features the commercial director of Original ADS Lauren Saxton discussing the alternative solutions to using Charge Pod and highlights how all other potential solutions currently available on the market are problematic and do not meet the needs of fleet operators like the RAC. Whilst the RAC are the only breakdown assistance company in the UK equipped with this technology to ensure their position as being number one for EV breakdown assistance in the UK, Original ADS have global contacts across a broad range of fleet operators and have a proven ability to adapt to the needs of their customers and a strong emphasis has been made on the fact that Charge Pod is a development project and will be continually adapted to make sure that it is always suiting the changing needs of businesses operating the system. This is exemplified when Motor Transport highlight the fact that: “For the RAC, it now has a potential solution for its 13 million members that reduces carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions of fleets, helps to reduce range anxiety among EV drivers, and sets it apart from the competition”.
“An excellent, pragmatic solution that will clearly assist in the take-up of electric vehicles.”
The article moves on to highlight in the words of the RAC how Charge Pod has solved an increasingly prevalent issue for the RAC’s growing number of EV members and has fit perfectly into an existing business model for the mature vehicle breakdown market. The RAC’s EV director Sarah Winward-Kotecha emphasises that: “We’re the only major UK breakdown company to have this technology and, as we scale up over the next year, it will mean we’re in an excellent position to assist EV drivers who break down as a result of reaching a faulty charger or running out of charge”.
“Exceptional forward thinking.”
In the words of Motor Transport magazine, “its creation bowled over the judges” which illustrates the ingenuity of the Charge Pod system as well as the competence of the RAC to respond to changing customer demands:
One judge remarked that Charge Pod is: “An excellent, pragmatic solution that will clearly assist in the take-up of electric vehicles.”
Another commented that this technological development demonstrates: “Exceptional forward thinking. A life saver for motorists as we all get used to electric systems in cars. With charge points new to us all, this is good to know in the event of being caught out.”
A third described the following commercial benefits of the system: “It’s a great development and will benefit the RAC in the reduction of recovery vehicles required to collect dead vehicles and will assist in boosting the membership providing a true benefit.”
The Motor Transport Awards have for 35 years been seen as a benchmark for excellence among UK road transport fleet operators, vehicle manufacturers and other innovators, to have received feedback of this calibre is illustrative of engineering excellence which Charge Pod represents as well as the capability of Original ADS to design, develop and support a world-class product for an industry leading organisation.
The general consensus of Charge Pod was summarised during the announcement of the win when it was said that…
“It was comfortably the most ground-breaking of all the submissions”.
“A really pioneering and innovative solution. I was particularly impressed with the aspects here around partnership working with the RAC, and how you overcame challenges in solution options, weight, space, variables in the EV market and overcame them yourself through great product development. A noteworthy initiative for a significant entry barrier in the EV market and what will surely become a valuable ‘expected’ service. Pleasing to see the industry recognition already received from the BEEA Judges”. -UK Business Tech Awards.
The UK Business Tech Awards celebrate the UK’s finest tech businesses and rewards innovative and exceptional application of technology to transform and grow businesses. We are delighted to have received national recognition by receiving the silver award for the Transformation Through Technology category.
In this category, the judges were seeking to recognise a company or organisation who have successfully transformed an element of their business or operation through successful application of technology. The judges were looking for demonstrable evidence and results of real, quantifiable transformation through innovation.
Now that the use of EVs has significantly increased, Charge Pod has proved itself to be an essential product to the RAC’s fleet. Charge Pod allows patrols to deliver an emergency power boost to a flat or severely charge depleted EV from standard patrol vehicles already in service. Being lightweight, compact and offering 100% duty cycle, this means that the RAC are still able to deal with all other problems they encounter at the roadside on a daily basis without compromising space and payload of the patrol vehicles.
